Case Study - Disposal and Trade-In Equipment Services
ComSource was approached by a large New England insurance company to provide hardware and migration services. This customer had decided to move their data center to a new building 25 miles away. As part of this migration they also planned to upgrade their hardware and trade-in and/or dispose of some older hardware. ComSource provided new IBM Mainframes, a pre-owned IBM tape library with VTS, and pre-owned peripheral hardware. On migration weekend ComSource technicians migrated the data from the existing IBM 3494-B18 VTS utilizing a "heartbeat" transplant onto the customer's new IBM 3494-B20 VTS. When the migration was completed ComSource technicians, along with IBM engineers, de-installed the hardware from the old data center and removed all hardware. Many of the items still had value and ComSource provided trade in credits toward the new hardware and disposed of (according to all local, state and federal requirements) the surplus "scrap" hardware at no cost to the customer.
