Case Study - Data Security and Compliance Services
The commercial division of a large information technology service provider was awarded a new 5 year contract for data processing from a large US retail firm. The data processing work had previously been done on site and this award necessitated the migration of both disk and tape infrastructure and the reimplementation of that infrastructure at the new data center site.
The ComSource team came together to research, design and price a complete turnkey solution to supply hardware, swing hardware, and all migration services for this cross country migration. This solution included a complete IBM 3494 library just for transition, a VTS "Heartbeat" transplant as well as a swing 2105-Shark with TDMF data migration. ComSource was ultimately selected to oversee this project. Our migration services contract alone (including disk, tape, virtual tape, onsite and offsite tape media, etc.) came in 30% below the price of the competition.
The "cut over" weekend arrived and the project, from start to finish, went smoothly and most importantly, on time. As it happened in this case, ComSource became aware of a proposed project to add an additional IBM 3494-B20 Virtual Tape Server at this location. Our team proactively addressed this need with the option of partitioning the IBM 3494-B20 we had just transitioned to perform the additional data processing without having to purchase another IBM 3494 Library. This solution saved our client an additional $400,000 and reinforced our goal of providing needs based information technology solutions.
