Migrations and Consolidations
ComSource was approached by a major financial services corporation
(a 15 year ComSource customer) to offer solutions to outsource
their mainframe disk and tape needs. The company had been looking
to one of the industry's largest "players" to offer what, at that
time they thought was the best solution. ComSource was asked to
prepare architectural and economic proposals to assist them in
their decision making process. Timing, economics and customer
satisfaction were all critical factors in making this a successful
data migration.
In summary, ComSource was able to provide savings on the supply
of an IBM z890 2086-A04 processor, IBM DS8300 disk, an IBM 3494
Library, 2 Virtual Tape Servers as well as the "swing" 2105 Shark.
ComSource successfully managed the disk migration to include initial
TDMF of data from four other host disk subsystems over to the
asset swap IBM Shark 2105 disk and migration of data over bandwidth
from the old host, utilizing PPRC, to the new target IBM DS8300
disk. In addition, ComSource provided "Heartbeat" migration services
to move all the data in each VTS cache to the new target IBM 3494-B20
VTS and 3494-B18 VTS.
As a result of the project being properly architected, competitively
priced, and being completed on schedule and on budget, the customer
was extremely pleased with the total migration solution ComSource
provided.
